Totally agree. Even if I am myself totally into Gay/Futa/Trans content, it is really considered bad design to ask the player only when already confronted to the content.
It should be asked way before, like in the settings or at the very start of a game (and same for Hetero content, as some games do).
And if it’s character wise then, if opt on, ask during the presentation of the said character without showing this part obviously.
There is so many game like the one you are describing... those harem shit game...
