Get to the Forest location, then to your left you should see a footprint in black, click on it and follow it through all the locations in the Forest.

Agree. Most of equipment and clothes is behind paywall.
When it comes to the Flat Lands location that some might not be able to find, it might be caused by loading a old savegame started in older game versions. At least for me that's an issed. New save has the waypoint, just need to complete quest #53 first. So half a year I might get a chance to get there....
