NTR is mainly for literate writers and readers. Hard to capture the character development and emotional growth from amateur writers. If you want to understand the true nature of NTR I suggest actual Japanese VNs that use NTR in non-erotic novels. May have a better understanding of the complexity of it. But as for "it should be optional" can weaken the integrity of the story. Not saying this story is top-tier, as writing NTR requires patience and understanding which few developers/writers understand.
