Not to mention that modern West got the idea of slavery from black slave traders in Africa. They didn't just arrive to Africa's shores and decide "Hey, these black people would make great slaves! Let's re-introduce slavery after not having it since ancient times!". They arrived to Africa's shores and were soon met by blacks who had enslaved other blacks (from raided villages etc.) and offered to sell them, just like any valuable "product" that they had and the white men may have wanted. Engaging in that trade was still a horrible thing to do, but at the time slavery was still normal in Africa, Middle East etc., while most of Europe got rid off it somewhere around the time christianity took over.
