User account system is currently in public beta testing phase. Bugs, inconsistencies and features not working as intended are to be expected.
I have the same problem. You would thank after all this time they would have fixed it. I like this VN but when crashes and shuts down it gets really annoying.
That might be a driver problem, especially if you have an AMD card. Try using older drivers. (I had to go back to Adrenalin 24.3.1 which was released in April to use fullscreen in RenPy and other OpenGL based programs again.)
