Come on an adult fantasy adventure in an ancient realm of Celtic myth and legend!
In the game “Heroes of Celtica” you are ‘the Scythian’, a hero of an immortal race of demi-gods known as the Tuatha De Danann. Fighting in the final great battle for the fate of his people, the Scythian suddenly finds himself in a wild land of warring kingdoms and beautiful, fiery women. Where is he? And why he is he being pursued by a relentless evil with no name? Will you raise your fabled sword in the name of your people, or will you give into the shadowy impulses that dwell inside your heart?
Based on the tales and characters of Irish and Welsh mythology, Heroes of Celtica is a story-rich and choice-based visual novel adventure. Play the Scythian (name selectable) through four storylines as either a heroic champion, a rougish bard, a scheming druid or a ruthless warlord!
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is a visual novel where the main story is progressed solely by making choices. There are no sandbox elements, mini-games or grind mechanics to pad out play time. Choices will direct the hero down different story paths, build relationships with different characters, trigger plot flags and/or tally points for future use. The game offers four independent storyline adventures within the fantasy world of Celtica.
Depending on the choices you make in the prologue, you can play the Scythian in the main game as one of four archetypes:
1) Champion – heroic warrior that can romance selected female characters.
2) Bard – rougish anti-hero interested in lewd companions.
3) Druid – a patient schemer seeking to establish a lair with villainous brides.
4) Warlord – principled but ruthless and lustful conqueror that forms a harem.
GRAPHICS
The 3D images in the game are made on an old rendering engine and lean more to an illustrative style than a photo-realistic one. There are occasional looping animations in the game to add a little visual interest to selected scenes, but this is not a central feature. Includes a replay gallery.
SOUND
Fantasy sound effects and music are present. The music has been selected to set the mood and atmosphere of the game and heavily feature instruments such as the harp, flutes, bagpipes and bodhran drums to invoke feelings of the Gaelic culture of Ireland and Scotland.
BASED ON MYTHOLOGY
Although the Scythian is an original character, the plot of Heroes of Celtica will cover Celtic tales from the Irish Mythological Cycle, the Ulster Cycle, the Fenian Cycle and also the Four Branches of the Welsh Mabinogi. Recorded mainly by Irish monks in the high middle ages, they are based on much older bardic sources dated to at least 700 AD and are set in a fictional Irish golden age from about 100 BC to 300 AD. However, if you have no knowledge of any of these ancient Celtic tales, it won’t make any difference, as the game does not assume the player has any prior knowledge.

- AIDEEN PATH FOCUS – All the new material is in the Aideen ‘heroic’ route for this update and takes place after the Scythian and his traveling party spot three red riders.
- MAJOR MYTHOLOGY RETELLING – This update retells a major story in the Irish mythology called “The Destruction of Da Derga’s Hostel” (Togail Bruidne Dá Derga), but I did take some liberties by adding a few notable characters from Irish mythology that were never there (forgive me). The story beats of this update basically follow how the story has been translated from Middle Irish.
- MAJOR CHARACTER INTRODUCTION – The major character of GRANYA (Grainne), the High Princess of Celtica is finally introduced! How long has she been on my development side but never in an update? Feels like forever… Granya is an important character in Irish mythology and is tied very tightly to the stories of Finn Moc Huul and the Fianna (but not Da Derga’s Hostel).
- LOVE and DARK PATHS – If you want to squeeze all the content out of this update, you will need to play through the Da Derga Hostel scenario having corrupted Etain or having made her fall in love with you AAAALLLL the way back in the introduction.
- NEW RETRO-ADDED CONTENT – There is also some retro-added content to the game around the character of Cethlenn, who is the wife of Balor the Evil Eye. Access this content by playing through the introduction at the start of the game again and ALSO there is new flashback content around the sequence just before the Scythian decides whether to steal the leadership of the Fianna from Finn Moc Huul or go on a quest to find the Four Treasures of the Tuatha.
