I had the same issue and got it fixed by downloading full game (compressed) and not just update
The update patch is uncompressed, so adding it to an existing compressed version is not advisable. The only way to avoid exceptions, is to download the entire game uncompressed, and then use the uncompressed patch with each update. Unfortunately compression causes a lot of problems with this game

The only way to do it is to pick to Get rid of the Alphas. If not you can get rid of 6 from 8 of them (the two who will stay is Dawe and the guy who was chatting with Lily, laterr found in Heather's room).
You get rid of Dawe by pushing him in the pool, and Jimmy by telling Heather he's sleeping on her bed. Once all the alphas are gone, you talk to Jacob again, and he finally gets to chat up Clara in the living room
