I had this problem as well. I solved it by clicking on the gear icon on the upper right side of the keyboard window and selecting keyboards. Resize the keyboard, hit the highlighted 'DONE' and you should be fine.
You have to question folk in the village to get clues as to set the fire. That will take you back into the city, and to the woukd-be murderer.
