That's Just the art style, i myself actually find it quite good as i haven't seen anything like it in other games and if you can see past it the game is actually very good in all other areas and has a multitude of different endings depending on your choices making it very easy to have multiple playthroughs.

What is the difference between compressed and normal version
The graphics are reduced quality/resolution for the sake of drastically reducing the file size. For this game, the normal version is over 1GB to download, while the compressed version is 179MB.
Don't minde the walkthrough. Just play any which way you like. Play it multiple times, somehow this game never gets boring. Every path will lead somewhere, there is no 'bad' path. All the nuances though...
I suggest reading it from left to right. Safe bet most of the time, i tell ya!
