Chapter 13
This one is quieter than the last few. Eva is planning a calm evening with Nicole ā snacks, something on TV, no drama. Then Chris casually mentions that Jack is flying back today. Jack, who owns the apartment, who Eva hasn't properly seen since she was a kid. That plan for a quiet evening doesn't survive the afternoon.
The chapter is about two men entering Eva's world at the same time, each in his own way. One is someone she has history with, even if that history is mostly childhood memories and years of distance. The other is a stranger with expensive taste who apparently got her number from Noah and is not shy about using it.
There's a dinner. There are questions that feel more personal than they should. There's also a delivery at the door that Eva absolutely did not order.
