Some of the side quests are mean't to be completed over a long period of time ( over the course of many updates in the case of the prostitution and fight for cash side quests)
Each update covers a fixed number of days, and if you just follow the main quest and ignore the side quests on each day, when that fixed number of days (usually two) passes, that's the end of the update. The solution is to complete as many side quests (in addition to the main quest) each day as you can. If you ignore them, well that's your problem not the Devs
