The creators are making way too much money off the patreons so they're taking their sweet time with it. Hell if it was up to them, they'd keep it at this version forever as long as the money doesn't dry up.
Your right, the last update 0.17 is out today and if the creator would do this little in 2 months on a regular job, he would be fired, probably 1 or maybe 2 weeks of work and 6 to 7 weeks doing nothing and collecting money.
Eventualy the patreons will probably quit donating, due this link between the money and the updates ... But that dosent mean they wont come back when the updates were often released. So the Kompass is probably just waiting this massive abandon to happen, to learn how far they can go.
This isnt a bad idea, but i would first maximize the public, by making the game more atractive ( with faster updates, as other stufs) , and just then slow down the cost of the updates ... That way might be more risk, since its like an investiment ... But i dont think they have to worry abt this.
