Is it possible that everytime there's an update you could just make it compatible for the old version so that I don't have to start over and over again?

The more the game progresses the more a walkthrough will be needed, if you don't want to miss any item....
Yes, put it in the same folder, your save files should transfer over. And you can copy your save files into the game folder.
I do it like this:
- create file for the game (for this game, something like 'Treasure of Nadia' in my D:/ or C:/ drive somewhere)
- Download the zip/rar file
- Extract it in the 'Treasure of Nadia' file
... play the game till new update....
- download new version
- extract it in the same folder ('Treasure of Nadia')
- play that new version from and load newest save.
(they should carry over.... this has worked with pretty much all the games i played from this site)
