I think the reason for his restart was the story - he opened too many strings, had demons in it, corporations with evil ambitions, research of drugs, folks with shaddy business and so on. The list is huge.
And although it was not a complete failure, it was getting more and more absurd and even grotesk.
Therefore I honestly believe that he needed a restart because he was not able to get it all together anymore.

Hmmm last update was in june 2020 acording to authors patreon, with 1390 patrons ( lowest 3$). This asshole made at the lowest 38k since the last update wihout doing anything.
Another dev that has turned to the scam side.
