It looks like there is a bug where once you get that far, trying to continue brings up the two logo's in the middle of the screen, i just had the same issue.
I agree with the balancing issues, i have to use cheats to beat some of the harder bosses as trying to get a perfect RNG is annoying and as you say you die too easily in some fights.
