I can't speak for others, but in my case it's because Ren'py sucks for games. It's great for building digital FAP Books, but for actual Games the interface just drained all the fun out of it. I threw away a year of development in Ren'py, but did manage to salvage some text for building a game in RPGMV (V added now that there's a Z)
That said, there are a lot of 'games' that aren't really games, merely paths to walk. Those would be served better in Ren'py's visual novel format.
