What a disappointing update. Basically 1 scene with sarge and it ends.
He was brought up in a poor backwater, that's almost completely isolated from the rest of humanity, in a very conservative society and strict religious background. His future was to be a poor farmer, so he received only a basic education, just like millions of people in poor backwaters in real life do and grow up with extremely restricted outlooks on life. That some more cosmopolitan people think of as being 'stupid', when in fact they are merely ignorant
The point being, that he's intended to be your stereotypical ignorant 'hick', who is so naive he takes everything at face value, because he's been brought up to believe that being dishonest in any way, is going to send a person to hell. He's lived his entire life in a bubble, where people are simple, straightforward, very honest for the most part and extremely moral. And suddenly he's thrust into a world where all that certainty is gone.
